In Holy Week we shall be joined by a team of eleven men and women from Trinity College, Bristol. We and they have described these eight days together as a “mission”.

In Christianity the use of this word is rooted in the purposes of God for human beings and the whole of creation. This is at the heart of the Bible and reaches its climax in the life of
Jesus.

But mission does not end with Jesus. His followers are called to continue the work. Always in partnership with God himself. And often in partnership with other Christians. The time with the Trinity team is about partnership in mission. So are our links with “mission” societies such as CMS.

CMS have plenty of experience of what this “mission” means, overseas and in our own country. Our churches have supported CMS over the years and this Lent we’ll make use of resource material which they have provided to support us.

As the introduction to the course says:-

“Jesus’ mission was to show people the way to God. As followers of Jesus each of us is called to join in that mission. But what does that mean in the 21st century? What form should mission take – and how can our lives be shaped by God’s mission? How can we discern what God is doing in the world and get involved both locally and globally?

One useful way of understanding the
wholeness of God’s mission is through the Five Marks of Mission

24th Feb -  to proclaim the good news of the Kingdom

3rd March -  to teach, baptise and nurture new believers

10th March -  to respond to human need with loving service

17th March - to seek to transform unjust structures of society

24th March -  to strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth”

Please aim to get to The Vicarage in time for an 8.00 pm start.
