The Christmas Tree Festival was a great success raising £475 for local charities with the auction of 9 decorated trees. Thank you to all of the groups who decorated the trees; they received a lot of attention with many visitors coming into the church to support the event.
The church was also able to support the Berkeley Christmas Fayre much of which had to be cancelled due to high winds. A big thank you to those involved with selling raffle tickets for the luxury hamper, another amazing £367 was raised.
St Mary's was packed for the Christingle service in support of The Children's Society charity. The society was setup to help some of the country’s most disadvantaged children. This was a great opportunity for the Berkeley community to come together and support such a worth-while cause.
Christingle celebrations have been going on for 47 years. The orange represents the world. The red ribbon indicates the love and blood of Christ. The dried fruits and sweets are symbols of God’s creations. For many people, they also represent the four seasons. The lit candle symbolises Jesus, the light of the world, who brings hope to people living in darkness.
A big thanks to all those who helped bring the Christingles together.
